We will outline how the ELPD built on existing strengths to reach over students across approximately 12 courses within 18 months. We will also address how to ensure scalability and sustainability, including the implications for workload and meaningful job placements disciplinary specific vs. In this poster, we outline a consultant training model that is used for teaching within OMS, which applies principles of learning and individual differences to meet future employer needs. At the same time, senior consultants develop both leadership and soft skills by managing projects and teams. Training also helps junior consultants develop key cognitive and interpersonal skills, which are integral to the role of I-O psychologists.

This practice improves both junior and senior consultants' abilities to deliver highly effective services to our clients and work more capably as members of a consulting team. Finally, the training program seeks to empower incoming consultants to manage their own careers by providing the opportunity to acquire on-the-job experience, explore new roles, and partake in projects that are relevant for personal development.

Over the past 10 years, curricular Community Engaged Learning CEL at Western has continually increased and the Experiential Learning team have developed a strong process to support this development. With a well-developed support process in place, CEL at Western is focusing on advancing curricular CEL through innovations in various areas including knowledge mobilization and curriculum mapping to advance our portfolio outcomes.

The farm is as valuable an experiential learning space as any classroom, laboratory, studio or archive anywhere and as any EL or co-op placement they might enjoy off campus. There are profound and profoundly important learning potentials connected to this magical place that go well beyond the initial OAC mandate or its current agriculture framing. Its evolving future involves exploring and supporting these EL possibilities. In this presentation, using slides and case studies, we will showcase some of the under-explored and under-utilized potentials of the GCUOF for supporting the EL dimension of all disciplines across campus.

But philosophy? This panel discussion with the faculty lead and four students from an undergraduate philosophy class will walk you through the choices and ingredients involved in one success story! Brock University has mobilized a campus-wide framework for scaling-up experiential learning including a complement of staff, supports for faculty, and collaborations across many units on campus to ultimately improve the curricular student experience. Through the development and redesign of courses and linking of co-curricular pathways, this has been a journey of many lessons learned which will openly be discussed.

The invited guests offer an integral contribution to the course subject matter by presenting fascinating material to the students. Sociological theory and concepts come to life when experts in the fields of mental health, youth services, sexuality, addictions and harm reduction speak to the class. These guests offer tremendous insights into issues that cannot be provided by any textbook or any one lecturer. Students, in learning about the lives and work of the guests, are intensely engaged in such thought-provoking material.

It is often expected that teachers will design transformative learning experiences for their students; however, the teaching in an initial teacher education program often does not invest in providing such authentic learning experiences for teachers themselves. This workshop intends to explore ways in which experiencing a contrast in a physical and cultural setting can help teachers not only to co-construct knowledge through contextualization but also to adapt such experiences in accordance with classroom dynamics.

Reflections on Cultivating a Long Now Mindset in Education

Through hands-on activities, the workshop aims to highlight the role of reflection activities, multi-disciplinary pedagogies, and sensory exposure in designing an effective field visit experience for teachers. This workshop is based on a small-scale study that focuses on experiential learning and its possible role in enhancing curriculum understanding and engagement of pre-service trainee RE teachers.

The study documents the design and implementation of a field visit experience to Andalusia Spain and traces the impact of this experience on teacher learning and development. Experiential learning EL is most often experienced by students off campus and without curriculum. This sink-or-swim framework presents significant barriers and does not support student learning.

We argue that the skills associated with experiential learning need to be deliberately taught within the existing curriculum across all disciplines from first to final year. In this minute interactive workshop, we will guide you through a series of learning activities that teach students skills such as active listening, knowledge translation and teamwork.

These activities will be discipline agnostic and we will challenge you to devise ways of applying your own discipline such that experiential learning does not compromise the teaching of content. We will provide alternatives of the same activities to meet the needs of classes of varying size and we will discuss methods of assessment for each. We will guide you through a curriculum mapping exercise that will allow you to identify the relevant places for introducing EL curriculum. By the end of our workshop, we hope to gather enough material to develop a handbook for publication and distribution.

The history of the development of the IME, how the eight-month IME is structured, the targeted marketing strategies behind student recruitment, and the vital role a live case and community project play in its success will be discussed. Highlights of the successful partnerships with local non-profit organizations will be detailed, as well as strategies to mitigate risks when dealing with community partners will be outlined. The Hill's Pet Nutrition Primary Healthcare Centre at the Ontario Veterinary College is a fully functional veterinary practice and an immersive experiential learning facility for students in all stages of their veterinary program.

In its ninth year of operation, we reflect and present on the challenges and successes that continually evolve for students, faculty and our practicing veterinarians. Specifically, the process of curriculum design for effective experiential learning and teaching and the decisions around assessment will be presented and discussed. Direction and thoughts on future developments around teaching and learning in an experiential environment will also be discussed.

Many of our students come from rural school districts struggling with above-average poverty rates. Some of our students have never been in a science museum before. In his teaching practice, the researcher developed an EL teaching model to bring pre-service teachers to a science museum in order to indirectly reduce their anxiety about math and expose them to educational, hands-on activities. Before the trip, an assignment was given to describe their learning experience and report a narrative detailing the activities.

Over the course of two semesters, there were 27 participants who took Mathematics for Elementary Teachers I. Global Vets is a student-run program of the International Veterinary Medicine Club at the Ontario Veterinary College OVC , which allows student veterinarians a unique opportunity to explore and experience animal health care in developing countries around the world. Students work under the direct supervision of OVC faculty members, called advisors, who guide and train the students for this experiential learning throughout the year. The pilot project took place in the summer of , allowing two students from the Ontario Veterinary College to travel to India and volunteer with various animal health professionals.

Since then, Global Vets has given opportunity to numerous budding veterinarians to undertake experiential learning around the world. The talk will showcase how the program is designed, coordinated, run and will also highlight the successes and challenges encountered during the last 21 years. Developed collaboratively by Niagara College, Brock University and Georgian College, this suite of 16 discrete, comprehensive, open-access modules will assist post-secondary educators and their community partners in developing a critically-informed understanding of experiential learning models and practical tools to plan, assess, and sustain EL opportunities.


Authors will discuss ways the toolkit can inform the development of outcomes appropriate to EL and assist stakeholders in supporting students in achieving these outcomes. Designed for flexibility, the toolkit will enable faculty, post-secondary institutions and community organizations to customize and augment the modules and will significantly improve the flexible delivery and accessibility of EL-focused professional development. With access to comprehensive, current and practically-focused training, critical stakeholders will individually and collectively be better equipped to deliver expanded offerings of effective EL opportunities for all students, including those who may experience EL barriers.
